Running For A Reason

You guys already know how important sports and fitness are to me. I blog, tweet, and have been lucky enough to write about it in several awesome places.  Living a healthy, active lifestyle is something that is easily taken for granted. In August, I mentioned that I have taken on the challenge of training for another half-marathon, this time the Savannah Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon.  Race day is just around the corner, on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

To make my race more meaningful, I am raising money for the Liam’s Land Organization (LLO) – a 501c3 non-profit foundation that gives hope to thousands of individuals with lymphatic malformation (LM) around the world. My goal is to raise awareness and money for this challenging disease.  I would like to raise $750.00 by October 21,  2011 to help Liam’s Land Organization, Inc.   All proceeds will go for Lymphatic Malformation medical research.

LM is where the lymphatic system did not connect correctly causing cyst and channels of excess lymphatic fluid. LM is predominately a childhood disease with no best treatment or full cure. Most children are diagnosed before their second birthday. Liam, the precious boy pictured below, was diagnosed at birth.  He will be two in January.  Although LM can target any area of the body, 70% of these children have LM in the neck, floor of mouth, and tongue causing severe airway problems and concerns.   These children go through multiple surgeries and treatments suffering with scars and disfigurement. As a result, many children will receive professional counseling.

Advancing research and establishing a patient registry is a must. Over the years there has not been enough focus on this rare disease. LLO’s medical research grant will lay the foundation for advancing studies in LM. We need your support to get these children with LM to the finish line. That is why I am challenging myself to make a difference in their lives.

I am hoping that some of you reading this will feel inspired to help this wonderful cause by making a donation on my behalf.   No donation is too small.   You can easily make a payment on the secure website by clicking hereAt the very bottom of the page you will be asked to search for a runner.  Enter “Justice Jonesie” and complete a secure checkout.   To donate by check, mail your donation to: P.O. Even if you can’t make a financial donation, you can still join me in making dreams come true for lymphatic malformation individuals and their families by Stumbling this post, Tweeting it, or sharing it on your pages. Be sure to leave a comment saying you did!  Thanks so much for your support!
